Lori Newsom, M.S.

COUNSELING STAFF

Lori Newsom received her MS in Counseling from the University of Memphis. Lori is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Tennessee who joined the staff of Samaritan Counseling Center in 2023. She previously worked with Kindred Place as a Family Services Therapist and currently works as a Specialized Crisis Counselor with Youth Villages. Lori also has experience as a teacher and guidance counselor in K-12 settings.

Lori provides individual counseling for adults focused on depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship concerns, coparenting, domestic violence, grief, and anger/emotion control. She also specializes in individual and family counseling for children and adolescents ages 3+. Lori incorporates a family systems approach in her work with the goal of helping families establish a workable family dynamic in the face of challenges by building trust and enhancing communication. Lori can work with concerns of childhood trauma/neglect, depression, anxiety, ADHD, emotion control, grief, school issues, and other behavioral concerns.

Lori is able to use a wide variety of modalities to help youth and families reach their goals. She is trained in EMDR, Attachment-Based Family Therapy (ABFT), play therapy, as well as Gottman Level 1 and Level 2. Lori is also a DBT-informed therapist.
