Rod Spencer
The Rev. Rod Spencer is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and a Licensed Professional Counselor in Tennessee. He has counseled in various capacities since 1983, when he received his M.Div. from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary.
He served for seven years as a pastor in Florida, then returned to school and received an M.A. in counseling from the University of South Florida, with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy. Prior to joining the Samaritan staff in 2004 he developed several counseling centers for local congregations in Florida and Tennessee. He has been an adjunct professor at Memphis Theological Seminary and Christian Brothers University, teaching courses in pastoral care, counseling and psychology.
Rod’s experience in counseling is broad, including treatment with individuals suffering from depression and anxiety, anger problems, grief and loss. He specializes in relationship issues including couple and marital problems, including divorce and parenting post-divorce. He provides premarital, marital and family counseling as well as working with individuals. Rod is comfortable addressing spiritual/religious issues and LGBTQ+ issues. He teaches classes and workshops on various topics including theology, psychology and philosophy. He is married and has parented two children and four stepchildren over the last 30 years.
